Rental agencies located within the E-ZPass system - currently New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and soon Illinois, New Hampshire and Maine - can now utilize the services of the HTA to eliminate the toll violations incurred by their customers. In some cases, one agency location may have thousands of such violations per month.

"The HTA provides a free service that removes the rental agency from the equation, and generates immediate revenue for agencies who sign up for this innovative new service," said David Centner, president of the Highway Toll Administration.

The overwhelming success and popularity of the E-ZPass system has inadvertently created an overhead burden for agencies within the E-ZPass footprint. When rental customers run an E-ZPass toll, a series of events are triggered ultimately requiring the agency to process each violation, print rental agreements, and attempt to collect directly from customers. Some agencies have dedicated personnel specifically for processing toll violations.
